A Dedicated Advocate for District 64
Lauren’s Background
The daughter of a dairy farmer and a teacher, Lauren A. Mathews is a 29-year resident of Trumbull County and a lifelong Democrat. Having lived in the Warren area for the past 25 years, Lauren has deep roots and a profound pride in improving her community. She is married to Michael Mathews and has raised three children, Kaitlyn, Allyson, and Liam.
Lauren has served on Warren City School Levy committees, parent organizations, sports boosters, and band boosters, and has coached youth soccer and softball. Lauren’s commitment to public service extends to her roles on the Board of the YWCA of the Mahoning Valley and the Trumbull County Senior Services Advisory Council.
She searches constantly to bring new voices to the table, from increasing equity and inclusion on the YWCA board to boosting diverse community participation as the co-Commissioner of the youth softball league.

Lauren earned her Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Edinboro University of PA, graduating cum laude, and has used her background in public health and vocational rehabilitation to passionately advocate for healthcare access and reproductive rights.
As a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, she partnered with community agencies to eliminate barriers to employment, such as housing, transportation, and childcare. Lauren spent much of the summer of 2023 obtaining petition signatures to get the citizen-initiated constitutional amendment on the ballot, partnering with grassroots community groups. Her efforts helped educate the community on the amendment, which voters passed in November 2023, securing The Right to Reproductive Freedom with Protections for Health and Safety.
Lauren has also volunteered with Protect Choice Ohio, Steel Valley Reproductive Freedom Coalition, Free Mom Hugs, Save the ACA campaign, and League of Women Voters Election Protection.
Why am I running for office?
I am always the first to stand up for the people I care about.
I’m standing up now for the people of Trumbull County because I care about ensuring the best health, education, and economic outcomes for every resident of this district. I care about serving the community into which I’ve poured my energy over the past 25 years. I care about protecting families and making them feel safe. Most of all, I care about listening and learning carefully to be a leader who always makes choices that benefit the “we” rather than the “me.”
But it’s not just about caring. I also have the commitment and the skills to build consensus, engage communities, and solve the problems that stand in the way of a better life for all Trumbull County constituents. The key parts of my platform reflect the most important levers of change: creating employment opportunities with a living wage, supporting personal healthcare decisions, and strengthening public education. Together, we will improve the overall quality of life for Trumbull County constituents.
